Tim Howe

Co-Founder

Tim has well over a decade of tax, technology, and business advisory experience, including his previous role as Director of Operational Tax for a large franchise restaurant company in Atlanta. He has provided indirect tax services to a wide range of clients in the manufacturing, power and utilities, software, and financial services areas.

Tim is a frequent speaker and presenter on issues and emerging trends in the sales and use tax arena and stays involved in organizations that focus on indirect tax issues. For instance, he is a member of Institute for Professionals in Taxation (IPT) and the Council On State Taxation (COST).

James Ortiz

Co-Founder

James has over 12 years of experience specializing in state and local indirect tax solutions, both in a public accounting role and as a state and local tax specialist for an international clothing retailer. He has served clients in all 50 states and Canada in the nonprofit, healthcare, construction, renewable energy, real estate, manufacturing, software/technology, digital advertising and telecommunications industries. He spent four years working at the New Mexico Taxation & Revenue Department in a variety of roles, including serving as an auditor in the Audit & Compliance Division, as well as developing internal departmental procedures for auditing specialty refund claims.

Some of his project experience includes tax credits and incentives, refund requests, audit representation and managed audits and nexus determination and letter rulings.

Nick has over 20 years of experience in sales and use tax compliance, audit defense, indirect tax process improvements and tax engine integration with various ERP systems. His background includes time with Big 4 accounting firms in the Transaction Tax Systems Practice within the State & Local Tax Practice.  Nick has also worked with an Atlanta home improvement supplies retailing company, performing audit defense, special tax projects and compliance work. He is the driver behind the technology that makes Synexus such an effective solution for businesses.  

Nick is responsible for project management, implementation and compliance of third-party tax tools such as CORPSales, Vertex and Thomson Reuters OneSource. He is also responsible for process reviews to determine customers’ current indirect tax landscape and ways to mitigate tax risks.

Judd has over 15 years of public accounting experience, providing an array of state and local tax services to clients in just about every industry - retail, distribution, technology, medical, hospitality, service and manufacturing. He is a problem-solver, with a commitment to customer service and a passion for relationship building.  Judd is a firm believer that customers will always do business with people they can trust, and people they enjoy being around.  

Indirect tax compliance is one of the most important, yet most under-appreciated areas of tax, and Judd thrives on making sure his customers can rest easy at night knowing their obligations are met.
